Feeling Sad?
It is normal to feel sad when we lose something important (lose of love, health, money, expected promotion, job, ..). But it is useless, holding on to it for long. Try the following approaches and choose the one that suits you.
Release and replace emotion
Like stress or fear, sadness is just an emotion or a thought that you can let go. It is not real, it is from your memory; treat it as just a thought in your mind and let it go.
- Accept. First accept the situation as it is. Let the emotions come out freely. Weep or cry if you feel like. Talk about it to your friend or write it down on a paper and tear it off.
- Let it go. Let go of the emotion sorrow; drop that thought just like you drop a litter in a dustbin. Let go of that weight you carry. You feel good now by letting it go.
- Replace with positive emotions. Fill your mind with your past experiences of joy, gratitude, love, God’s blessings, fun times and so on. Identify an instance that made you feel very happy in the past (such as a family vacation); create a strong visual picture of it in your mind. Whenever the sad thought comes to your mind, drop it and replace it with the ‘happy picture’. Intensify the positive feeling.
Spiritual Approach
- Put down all your sorrows and worries at the feet of Jesus; detach yourself from it. Look at Jesus and meditate on the sufferings that Jesus went through. Tell him the sufferings you are going through; he understands because he has already gone through similar ones.
- Listen to his voice; hear his consoling words. Feel the love, protection and strength that he gives you.
- Rejoice in Jesus. Thank Jesus for the love and care given so far. Thank him for all the blessings showered on you. Let his love, affection, consolation, peace, energy, and grace flow to your heart and fill your whole body.
Meditate on the Words of God that consoles you. As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you. (Isaiah 66:13). More verses on God’s love
